We have often driven by the turn off for this place. On this occasion we made an unplanned visit on our way to Dunwich and Minsmere. We purchased 3 plants.
After getting home I rechecked my receipt and found that we had also been charged for 4 bags of ericaceaous compost that we have not had (we only used a small basket). This meant the bill on my credit card was double what it should have been. I kicked myself for not checking the amount on the screen more carefully. It's especially easy to make a mistake with contactless payments. Lesson learned.
When I range them and spoke to someone called Jo, supposedly the manager, the next morning she was partly apologetic but said she couldn't understand how this could happen. She offered to send us a voucher or to issue a refund when we next called in.
We changed our plans and called in there in the afternoon. The position had now apparently changed and she said she was going to have to call someone else to speak to us, and they were concerned because they have had others trying to defraud them. She went back on what had been agreed on the phone, which annoyed me as much as anything, and said we should have checked before leaving, and their policy was not to issue refunds in these circumstances! That policy did not seem to be displayed anywhere.
This made me feel awful and I mentioned calling the police and at least my credit card company. I suspect I may have proof on my vehicle dash cam - and she mentioned their CCTV (which they would do well to check).
She was adamant that no such mistake could happen and that their EPOS terminal till was error free (why then have there been other people going back?).
I can swear on a stack of bibles that we did not have those goods!
Eventually after finding it necessary to raise my voice she backed down and issued a refund. This is appreciated but nonetheless it's left a nasty taste in the mouth and it has spoiled our experience. It's most unlikely we will go back and I would not recommend it to anyone. If you do go and buy anything check carefully....
