点评:Thursday 2nd October we visited this 18th century watchtower that was built for defence purposes.
It is located on a clifftop around 4 kilometres down the coast from Es Pujols where we were staying.
We parked up the road and walked down the coastal pathway up to the Tower.
It stands at the south-eastern point of the Nature Reserve (Parc Natural de ses Salines d'Eivissa i Formentera).
The Tower was built in 1762 as coastal lookout for attacking pirates.
The widest part of the tower is at the base and slightly tapers inwards up to the top.
It is not open to the public so unable to substantiate that it is a two storey building. From the exterior it did appear to be with a small wooden arched doorway partway up the Tower.
From the parapet at the top of the Tower, above the doorway, there is a machicolation which juts out. This is a architectural feature, a projecting gallery with floor opening from where things were dropped down on attackers below.
Walking around the Tower we noticed that there were a couple of window spaces dotted in the walls.
We also were treated to some amazing coastal scenery as well areas of the National Park.
From the nearby information board, we learnt that this tower controlled the northern area of the island keeping visual contact with the towers of Punta de la Gavina, in Formentera, and Punta de sa Guardiola, in S'Espalmador.
It is the largest of Formentera's defense towers which was renovated in 2003 by the Local Council.
