点评:We had tickets to see Larry David that we bought during presale and were very excited about. We booked a hotel, drove up to Portland, and scheduled dinner plans around the show to make a whole extended weekend out of it.
The trouble started immediately when we got to the Moda Center. We scanned our tickets at the entrance and went up to the 300 section where our seats were. We were fine being that far up because our main preference, due to a medical condition my wife has, is for aisle seats and all the aisle seats that were left were up in the 300s. No biggie. Unfortunately, when we got up to the 300 section, we were turned away by a gentleman who said that we shouldn't have come up there and that we should've been stopped at the door and reassigned.
Apparently, the 300 section had been shut down because the show hadn't sold out and they wanted to pack the sections they could. Okay. Whatever. So we had to travel down from the 5th floor to the first floor and go to the makeshift booth they had set up to reassign seats.
When we arrived, we were told the situation, and explained our preference for aisle seats, and the lady at the ticket exchange table assured us the new tickets were for aisle seats and were much better than the ones we had purchased. Alright, great. The lady who exchanged our tickets told us to go upstairs or up a level in the elevator to our new section. No loss at this point—perhaps just a little bit of time.
We got in the elevator and went to the level we were told. However, the signs didn't match up with what we had on our tickets. We asked someone for help. They told us we were on the wrong level. We had to go back down to the main level... where we got our tickets reassigned... where we just had been. Okay... a little frustrating... but an honest mistake. We would preservere.
We went back down and went to the right section. We showed our tickets to the attendant at the entrance to the section. She vaguely pointed towards a set of seats above us. We looked for row H seats 1 and 2, and, remember, we were looking for aisle seats, because that's what we were told we had. So we sat in the seats that were in row H marked 1 and 2 which were aisle seats. We were ready. The show was starting. We were finally ready for this experience we had been looking forward to for so long.
Then... not much later, the situation changed yet again, because a couple came up and said we were in their seats. We got up and compared tickets. They were in row H, seats 1 and 2. We were now very confused. We looked across the aisle to see if we were in the wrong section, but the seats that were on the other side of the aisle were 8 and 9. Had we gotten duplicate tickets somehow? We went back down to the attendant and asked where our seats were if those weren't the ones we were supposed to be in. The girl once again vaguely gestured towards the same area above us. This was as helpful as it was last time. We asked her to show us. Then the issue became clear. Row H seats 1 and 2 were not aisle seats. We sat in the wrong seats because we were looking for aisle seats—but our actual seats were the opposite of aisle seats—we were up against the wall and had to cross over 7 people to get to our seats, and would have to do so every time we got up.
We tried to make it work, but it was really uncomfortable for us, and this is exactly why we got aisle seats in the first place. By now, we had missed the first 20 minutes of the show. We went back to the booth where our tickets were exchanged to see if there was anything we could do. They said all the aisle seats had already been assigned—no doubt while we were busy being misled by every system and metric in this entire operation. With zero compassion, the lady at the counter basically told us to deal with it. At this point, we had missed about 40 minutes of the show. So we walked out, with no experience show for it and hundreds down the drain. We couldn't get refunds, we couldn't get vouchers. No one cared. They had already ripped us off.
The Moda Center is a deafening cascade of incompetence and failure. Every employee is making the worst possible decision at every possible moment, and every operating procedure is designed to maximize confusion and create unnecessary steps. We were never sent emails or texts or a phone call explaining that our seats would be reassigned, we couldn't get anyone to help us, we were fed misinformation, and we had what was by far the worst venue experience of our lives.
Avoid the Moda Center if you can. If there is an artist coming to Portland that you want to see and they book the Moda, it'll behoove you to make the drive up to Seattle instead, or Bend, or anywhere else—just stay away from the Moda, for the love of God.
Moda Center
