We visited the above state park in order to see the Fall colors. We used this location as a hub to visit other areas of interest. We enjoyed our stay here very much as our site was located on a peninsula with a view of Lake Hartwell from 3 sides of our 30 ft travel trailer. It was absolutely beautiful with awesome sunsets. Our site was an easy back-in site with a picnic table and fire ring. The water pressure was the best I have ever seen at a campground, but we did not need a pressure reducer. There is no Wi-Fi. The firewood was available for the campers but I don’t know if that was just good timing or if providing the firewood is routine. There are so many fallen branches that it would be easy to gather your firewood if you had a tool to cut up the bigger pieces. Our camper has a full bathroom so we did not look inside the bath house, but they were conveniently located. During this time of year, we had the peninsula to ourselves until Friday when each site was filled. There are a lot of deer in this state park so be sure to keep your speed down and look for them. We saw a beautiful dark brown buck with a handsome rack as well as 5 deer cross the road in front of us and numerous other crossings. This campground does have a few easy trails that are maintained. They have 3 road loops with camping sites and some group areas. We stayed in loop 1. One of the other loops has a playground with a beautiful view of the lake. This same loop also has the office for checking in, dump station, and the only trash dumpsters. The staff were very nice. The gates close at night for security. There is no campground host at the time of our visit, but they are seeking one. There is a close barbecue restaurant called Fork Grove Barbecue. I highly recommend their pork briquet. There is a very cute downtown area in Hartwell GA. Hartwell downtown did a very good job in decorating for Halloween. Many stores are available within a 20 - 30 minute drive.
Cons for this campground:
1. The area for you to get your travel trailer to the sewage dump is very tight. We opted not to use it since our next campsite had sewage hookup. There should have been a turn around to approach the sewage dump station.
2. There are no trash cans anywhere except at the trash dumpsters. We had a dog with us and cleaned up after her, but there was no place to put our bags until we drove to the trash dumpsters. I would highly suggest more trash cans throughout the campground which may increase compliance with people picking up after their pets and picking up general trash.
While we stayed at this campground, we also visited Clemson University, city of Greenville and Caesar’s Head. The colors were beautiful the further we went north. You could see Table Rock mountain from Caesar’s Head. We highly recommend this campground.
