A great day out for nostalgia buffs but questionable value for the money

点评：We had a lovely day, the highlight, for me being the wonderfully restored station, volunteer staff and steam train (although it's worth pointing out that you can enjoy that, with unlimited steam train and vintage bus rides, for £19 per person for the day, by buying your ticket directly at the station - check which dates are 'steam').
The church was also beautiful, with an enjoyable hike to get to it (providing you are reasonably fit, have good weather and enjoy hiking across fields etc). Ongar has a couple of tea shops and character pubs, but is spoilt by the incessant traffic, making it difficult to even cross the road. We were in a group of 3 couples, 1 of which decided the walk to the church wasn't for them, leaving just 4, making for a very relaxed tour, never feeling 'herded' as some tours can be. Our guide was friendly and gave us some points of interest to explore by ourselves, and was only with us for perhaps an hour, leaving plenty of time to explore.
