Not Great and Visit Spoilt By Member of Staff

点评：Visited here as an away football fan before the Portsmouth game as the pub was being advertised as the away dedicated pub.
On arrival all was good and you were allowed in with colours on. Pub looked decent with Barnsley football items all over the place which is great. Other fans all seemed friendly, but our visit was spoilt by what appeared to be the doorman.
On arrival a local man was on the door, with no SIA door badge shown which is illegal, but he was coming across as the doorman. He seemed ok at first, but was then going round telling people to move their jackets from seats.
Due to football colours being allowed, I got my flag out which is a size of an average tablecloth and it normally goes on the table in pubs we visit. Normally it promotes great conversation between fans as it’s got our European games on from 2008.
However, despite a nice bar lady seeing me putting it out and not objecting, as soon as I put it on the table, the ‘doorman’ quickly came across, started tugging at the corner of it whilst saying, ‘Put that away now! It will upset the locals and if you don’t like it, you can leave!’
Well, if I hadn’t had just bought a round we would’ve left as the way he spoke to us was a disgrace. Plus if we hadn’t have been sensible, mature people then it could’ve caused an issue as most people would’ve reacted to the way he spoke to us.
Why not simply come across and politely say, ‘Excuse me mate, do you mind putting that away as it may cause issues?’ I’d have been happy with that and from reading other reviews there seems to be an issue with a member of staff there, so probably him going power crazy?
I’ve tried to ring the Licensee to advise, but every time I ring, the person answering says they can’t hear me.
It was a shame as it seemed like a decent local pub and the other staff were lovely, but we won’t be returning and I’ll be advising others not to visit.
