Impressive church in the heart of Pori
Central Pori Church (Keski-Porin kirkko)的点评
点评：The entrance was free of charge. Generosity was highlighted by offering also free drinking water in the middle of the church. One can light a candle for 0,50€. The church was open at 10-18. There was some misinformation about the time online (10-13).
The church is really large, as it has room for 1700-2000 people inside (the first number is found on a web site and the latter on the sign in the front yard). The building was designed by Sweden-born Carl Johan von Heideken in the 1860s , the same architect who drew Pori Art Museum building which is right nearby. The interior design of the church, and the famous top of the bell tower, are designed by originally Swedish Georg Chiewitz, the very same architect who planned Pori city after its latest larger fire, as well as Mariehamn and Uusikaupunki cities.
The altarpiece was painted by Robert W. Ekman in 1863.
The multicoloured glass windows are from 1925 by the famous Magnus Enckell. The memorial statue series in the honorary grave yard is designed by well known Aimo Tukiainen in 1952. Near the altar, there is a 2022 artpiece called Kastevirta ('babtismal stream') by Mikael Korkee (whose last name means 'high' in Finnish).
The church is taken good care of, it seems. I was very impressed.
