点评:I just came back from two weeks of classes at La Hacienda. Four classes a day the first week and five the second- a mixture of grammar, conversation and vocabulary. Luis is a master at teaching grammar and has a knack for explaining the complicated and for me the dreaded reflexive pronouns, indirect pronouns, indirect objects etc. Suddenly what I read in textbooks made sense! Duolingo can NEVER achieve this. Esme was vivacious and animated at grammar (!) and conversation classes. I had a wonderful learning experience and plan to return next year or soon.
The school is nestled above the hills and is a lovely walk from downtown. There’s a big park at the bottom where I got to see the local people going about their daily exercise routines- boxing seems quite popular.
And the town itself - a UNESCO site, a “silver mine” for history buffs. The colorful characterful buildings, the cobblestones streets and alleys, the maze of tunnels from a bygone era, all call out to be explored. Guanajuato is part of the Independence Route (the other nearby historical cities are San Miguel, Hidalgo Dolores) and Atotonilco), so it is particularly exciting to be here at the end of September and beginning of October amidst the festivals marking Independence Day. And of course October is the month where Guanajuato celebrates its favorite son, Cervantes, with the three week long International Cervantes Festival.
So with La Hacienda, one gets the best f Spanish language immersion plus cultural and historical engagement.
