Povarskaya Street的点评
点评：Povarskaya means "the cooks street" in Russian since it used to be a district where people preparing food for the tzar's court lived. Today, however, diplomatic missions dominate the scene.
I walked down it in August, counting them (in side streets too). Lithuanian, Norwegian, Cypriot, Belgian, Afghanistani, Grenadian, Pakistani, Icelandic, residences of ambassadors of Chile and Belgium, Georgia's Interests Section (Russia has no diplomatic relations with that country) and even a consulate of Transnistria (a tiny state recognized virtually only by Moscow). Twelve, wow!
Though in the heart of the city, Povarskaya is not as hellishly roaring as the nearby Novy Arbat thoroughfare, so it may even be a pleasure to loiter there, especially in the evening. I noticed a couple of fancy restaurants also.
Recommended for a short stroll (if time allows).
