点评:Visited Kinnel hoise on an open day, celebrating the Roman heritage (Antonine Wall), beautiful house (16th and17th century) partly in ruins but with two astounding rooms with 15th Century painted walls and James Watt's cottage, where he did his initial work on steam eangines, and the ruined 12th century kirk.
What an amazing wealth of history in such a small area.
The guided tour of the house, by Friends of Kinneil House was excellent, with a knowldgeable and friendly guide.
There was a Roman Day in progress with legionnaires marching up and down the drive joined by visiting children in costumes. There was archery, carving, and so much to do.
We did not have time to go all the way to the Fortlet or visit the museum, but we will be back for another visit soon.
This place is a treasure and Historic Scotland should be making a big effort to make it better known and accessible.
