点评:This garden is privately owned in the Croome estate, so it’s not part of the National Trust itself and ticketed. What a delightful serendipity find. We missed it on our first pass of the church but found the sign to it on our way back. I don’t think we have ever seen such a magnificent walled garden. Firstly it is huge, so took up a lovely part of our afternoon. It is in its 25th year, so is now beautifully developed. The owners have a house on this once desolate site, so can keep the place spic and span. There are literally hundreds of tomato varieties, including heritage types, and hundreds of apple varieties. I asked where all the fruit and vegetables go, because there would be an inevitable glut. I thought they would be selling to farm shops. But no, they are all given away to the gardeners and visitors, and of course themselves, keeping their freezer stocked with sauces etc. There are three greenhouses with melons, pineapples and other exotics; a marquee offering free drinks and ice creams; a fabulous rose garden; sculptures, and water features. Check for opening times.
