点评:Brayford Pools claim to fame is that it is the oldest inland harbour in Britain. It was originally formed by the Romans from a widening of the River Witham.
It has been the centre of urban regeneration in Lincoln since the 1990’s and today it is flanked by the University to the south and modern hotels and chain bars and restaurants on its north shore which, in summer provide a nice area for alfresco dining.
I know some have bemoaned the fact that it is full of bland chain restaurants but personally I think that is a good thing as it keeps them away from the more historic and interesting parts of Lincoln. The Royal William IV is probably the best option if you prefer somewhere that has got a smidgen of character and not totally bland.
Of course if you are a first time visitor to Lincoln you should head straight away up steep hill to the cathedral and the quaint interesting part of the city, but if you are a local, or have seen all that before, then this Waterside area gives another alternative place to stroll and perhaps eat lunch, and has the advantage of being close to the main shopping area and obviously the train station, if that is your mode of transport.
One small negative is that during the evening it does seem to attract the undesirable elements, who sit consuming their cans and other things on the walkways and underneath the bridges. Usually easily avoided but still not a good look for what is meant to be a smart part of the city.
