点评:We had an absolutely magical experience at the Sealaska Heritage Institute in Juneau. First, the Artist-in-residence, Lily Hope, introduced us to her work making Chilkat blankets and teaching the craft, and we got to touch some of the materials and works in progress! Then Denali, a staff member, gave an insightful introduction to a short film about the totem trail project, including information about the Tlingit language. Denali is knowledgeable, friendly, and really went out of his way to respond to our curiosity about the language. Finally, the exhibits themselves were fantastic and well-presented. It was fascinating to learn about the history, and to see contemporary examples of Northwest Coast Art in the same building. We left with hope in our hearts because after decades of suppression and attempted erasure, places like the Sealaska Heritage Institute are supporting a resurgence of the Tlingit culture. If you're in Juneau, don't miss it!
