Nice gentle cruise up and down the river with a rather pedestrian commentary

点评：The lower reaches of the River Wye are designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty and the deeply wooded gorge is best seen from the river.
This is nice gentle cruise up and down the river with a rather pedestrian commentary. There are brief glimpses of the C13th St Dubricius Church upstream.
Downstream in Symonds Yat West is the Old Ferrie Inn which is one of the oldest inns on the river and still runs a hand pulled ferry service across to steps on the opposite bank.
On the opposit bank is Symonds Yat East with the pink 'Swiss Chalet' above. This was made famous in the Netflix show ‘Sex Education'.
Further down the gorge, there are views of the tall limstone pillar known as Longstone Rock, which is popular with rock climbers. A bit further on are the rapids and turning round point for the trip.
The website comments ‘Leaping salmon, peregrine falcons and mink are all regularly sighted, although our local otters are a little more elusive!’ We didn’t see any although there was a glimspe of an egret.
The boat runs from Symonds Yat Leisure Park. On a Tuesday afternoon in mid September, this was deserted apart from our coach party and everywhere was shut apart from a shack serving coffee. There was a definite end of season feel to the place. There is a huge caravan and camping site, a lot of (closed) eateries and a (closed) gifty shop. All in all a waste of time and a bit tacky.
