点评:Had great expectations for travelling the Convict Trail but the experience was soured by the poor state of the road (Great Northern Rd). The convicts built the road between 1826-1836 and did a good job of it and it's great that parts are still used today, and some construction still exists. But the present state of the road is a disgrace! Sections are sign posted 100Klm/hr., and it is in my opinion too fast for the conditions. I've driven all over the world and I found the road to be winding, rough, broken verges, off camber and definitely not safe to traverse at the posted speeds. Plus, for a tourist route, it was poorly signposted with little or no warning of convict remains ahead, until you had passed them. With local traffic pushing through it was a risk to pull up without incident. I'm glad we got to see some of the remains but I think the road authorities need to reassess the route and make it safer for all to use and enjoy the history. The full route runs from Wisemans Ferry up to the Hunter Valley.
