点评:Having a Japanese traditional tea ceremony at 'Miyuki-tei' at the Yui Honjin memorial cottage on a tatami-floored cottage was an extraordinary experience. The original cottage was used on three occasions as a place of rest for Emperor Meiji. Built in traditional style it has a room for tea ceremony, a garden designed by a renowned tea ceremony expert Kobori Enshu. The tea ceremony is conducted in the Kabuki style of acting slow and deliberate. The ceremony varies slightly between schools, but the essentially: we took off our shoes, ushered in to waiting room then greeted silently with a bow, purified ourselves with water as in the temples, before entering tatami mat room. Sitting in a kneeling position, the tea master starts with meticulously and in precise order cleans the utensils. Tea is usually prepared over charcoal fire. The final brew made from ground green matcha tea leaves is offered to the most important guest in the room. The recipient raises the bowl in mark of respect to the master, rotates the bowl slightly, tastes the tea and compliments the master on the taste and the bowl in which it is served. The drinker, wipes the lip of the bowl and passes it on to the next guest. A traditional biscuit is offered after tasting the tea.
