Best Tour in Mendoza
Bodega Carmelo Patti的点评
点评：If you have read anything about Carmelo Patti and it says that he is an amazing host and tells all sorts of great stories about wine … it’s all true and all in Spanish.
His bodega/warehouse is in town and it is very unassuming compared to the many other bodegas of architectural grandeur in Mendoza. For example, at other bodegas the entrance is marked with beautiful desert landscape and a decorated front door. There is a hired guide, usually a young person that leads the tour from a wood carved front desk. Even parking areas are landscaped.
Here, though, there was neither landscape nor a marked parking area. The tour is at an old warehouse off a local street with weeds in front. We drove past it and circled around looking for parking and couldn’t find parking so we drove into the compound and parked along a wall which we later had to move because a truck had to drive through the tight space. We still were not sure we were at the right place because we could not find an entrance and no one was around. A few other folks began showing up and we all confirmed with one another that we were all there for the Carmelo Patti tour.
The bathroom was so old, there was a crack in the middle of the porcelain sink and a shower that had a hole in the wall and there were notes all over instructing the user on how to operate the toilet and hot water.
But, we came for the wine and the person of Carmelo Patti and we did not come for the architecture and landscape. Carmelo is one of the original winemakers in the area and is the real deal. His wine is as spectacular as his soul.
Sometimes one of Carmelo’s daughters leads a tour, but this morning we were blessed by Carmelo himself. He began the tour a bit late, unlocked the chain-linked gate and was dressed super casual. He was kind and thankful we were there; he was very inclusive of us all. He greeted us and asked about what we do and where we were from. It was a real authentic welcome.
Carmelo knows how to love on people and he interacted with each of us. Everyone in our tour bought at least one bottle of wine. We bought the Cab Franc and it has, to date, been the best wine we have ever had. Carmelo taught us about the early days of Mendoza and wine making and labeling, also tricks about storing and getting the most out of wine; his stories about wine and his friends and family are plentiful and colorful.
Go go go … you will be glad you did. A big thank you to Carmelo Patti and his daughters for a delightful morning tour.
