Picturesque, but not much to see

点评：We visited The Highlands Mansion & Garden en route to another event in the area and I'm glad we didn't trek out here for just the house/garden; otherwise, this would have been a major disappointment. Similar to another reviewer, we came in the Fall. There had been a wedding earlier that weekend and so the place was carefully attended to, but there wasn't much to see. The house and barn are definitely unique architecture wise as are the stone battlements of the courtyard garden. We also loved how a greenhouse from the early 1900s is still going strong. That said, we spent all of 20 minutes here. There appear to be trails at the back of the parking lot through the rolling countryside, which could extend your stay, but we were mostly interested in the garden. If we're in the area again, we would consider re-visiting in the summer to actually see what's in bloom (and perhaps a house tour? They are by appointment only.) It is quite idyllic, the area surrounding The Highlands Mansion is lovely as well and this place doesn't seem to get a lot of foot traffic (other than locals), but I just wouldn't venture out of your way here to visit.
