点评:We are just leaving the Hiroshima Railroad Station as American Tourists. I have traveled all over the world and have never experienced the unprofessionalism and rude staff that are here at this Station. My daughter lives in Japan and is pretty good at the rail, bus and taxi systems in Japan. We are spending three weeks traveling Japan with Hiroshima and Miyajima as one of our stops. Our day in Hiroshima was great, we had an amazing tour guide who spent 7 hours with us walking us all over this beautiful city. When we went back to the rail station we gave ourselves plenty of time to walk around and know where our trian was to go back to Kyoto. As we were heading towards the gates we saw a JR employee and asked for confirmation that we were heading towards the correct track as our city was not listed on the electronic board and there was two trains leaving at the same time. We were told to proceed to track 11 which we did. Once the train arrived we got on the train to find someone in our reserved seats. At that time we determined either they were on the wrong train car or we were, but we felt confident as the JR employee is who guided us to this train. It was determined that we were on the wrong train but the conductor told us not to worry. We could get off the next stop and head back to Hiroshima. Unfortunately there would be no more trains towards Kyoto for the night so we would have to stay in Hiroshima and that we could use our tickets to return to Kyoto in the AM as it was not used yet. When you arrive at Hiroshima you must scan your ticket in front of JR staff. We arrived and told them we were directed on the wrong train and the conductor told us to return from the next train station and that the ticket could be reused in the morning. The staff there told us that was not possible and that our ticket was now invalid because we needed a train the following morning. We explained to the staff what occurred, they had us wait over 45 minutes while they reviewed video tape to confirm what we told them ( I thought Japan was trustworthy...but we were being made into liars), wanted us to tell them the name of the employee....we could not do that because all we knew it was a man wearing a facemask (staff does not wear name badges)...we were being interrogated by staff there at almost midnight when we just wanted to get to our hotel and return in the AM. We felt like criminals at the rail station that did something wrong. We were being questioned by 5 staff members, two of the girls did nothing but laugh behind their masks thinking the situation was funny and that I guess we are stupid Americans traveling when their own staff is who directed us to the wrong train. They told us we needed to buy new tickets at over $250.00. We told them fine and would return in the morning since you could not rebook tickets anymore until 5:30 AM. We spent $200.00 on a hotel near the train station. My daughter went on the Shinkansen Rail website when we got to the hotel where it clearly states that our tickets could be used for unreserved seats within 48 hours which is exactly what the conductor advised us. We returned to the rail station this morning, went right to ticket counter. Guy there was super helpful and understood what occurred...told us we could get back to Kyoto and that our tickets were not used yet. He gave us paperwork to give to the JR staff manning the scanning machines. The young girl there looked at the papers and told us very nasty that she told us last night we needed to buy new tickets. We told her according to their own website due to our situation we did not, showed her the website. She then commented to us, "that we always expect something for free"....excuse me??? We are not expecting anything for free.....we spent over $600 on bullet train tickets, sent in the wrong direction on the way back and just want the ticket to be honored. To be told a ticket is invalid because you need a train the next day( we wouldn't need anything according to them had there been another train that night.) is not our fault. Their website clearly states their policies and the staff manning the ticket scanning apparently do not know of them. This young female JR staff then threatened to call the police on us over our ticket situation....what???? She did not like that we asked her to look at their website about our situation. She then told us that we could only use the ticket for the first train ride. We explained to her that we missed the first train ride going back and forth between the two counters. The 2nd train of the day was coming in 20 min. We went back to the ticket counter, explained to the staff there what was just said to us. He said, no thats incorrect and printed us two tickets for the 7:00 AM train with no issue.
My advice to travelers using the Shinkansen Rail Station in Hiroshima who are foreign is to make sure you know where you going in maneuvering the station as some staff are not helpful, condensending and rude. This has left a sour note on our visit to Hiroshima unfortunately. Best of luck to you all traveling through this Station....you have been warned!
