点评：I was forbidden to swim in swim shorts – even though they were real swimwear, designed for swimming, proper material, just with a wider cut. The justification? “These shorts can also be worn in the street, so they are dirty.”
Absurd: in almost all of Europe – Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands – these shorts are no problem. People there know the difference between street clothes and swimwear, without inventing a fake hygiene risk.
As a physician, I can confirm: there is no scientific study proving swim shorts are less hygienic than briefs or tight boxers. Hygiene depends on showering before swimming and the fabric of the suit, not its cut. This rule has no medical basis.
It would be far more useful to impose on pool operators real hygiene measures, scientifically proven:
• more frequent/systematic water checks,
• regular sampling,
• renewal with fresh water,
• effective chlorination, known to kill germs.
These are effective, evidence-based measures – unlike this ridiculous ban.
What’s worrying is how rules are enforced without proof of effectiveness. If bans can be introduced without scientific justification, anything can be imposed as a “local rule.”
I was even forbidden from sitting by the pool in my swim shorts. Meanwhile, body hair under arms, chest or elsewhere = no “hygiene” problem. Where is the logic?
And of course, the big lesson: “Our rules, our country.” A fine example of liberty and common sense… If only everything in France were as “well regulated” as this nonsense, perhaps one could believe the country is truly the spearhead of freedom.
Result: humiliating, absurd, incoherent regulation. Experience ruined. Avoid at all costs.
