Not in our top 20 beaches of Fuerteventura

点评：From our base at Corralejo we had extended a day trip in our hire car via Betancuria to see what the beach at La Pared was like, never having visited it before.
Turning off the FV-605 we just followed a straight route along Avenue del Istmo, which was developed perhaps in anticipation of building a resort which hadn‘t quite happened as yet. For the time being there are roads, clusters of villas and a few surf schools - we didn’t see much else on the approach. We also didn’t know that, as the surfaced road turned into a very rough track, we were in fact arriving at a car park for Playa del Viejo Reyes. I use the term “car park” loosely however in reality it was just rough open ground at the top of a cliff. There were plenty of campervans parked up and people with their camping chairs set up to admire the setting sun. I can only imagine the interior of the vans were strewn with items thrown from shelves as they negotiated the “car park”.
Fortunately we hadn’t planned to spend too long here since by the time we arrived around 5pm the light was fading and the tide was coming in on the shore. This meant access to the beach was limited to a fairly narrow strip. Despite this there were still some surfers on the water. There are steps down to the beach but in the circumstances we decided to forgo venturing down them.
It appears that the tide comes right up to the cliff base and even when it’s out the sand is likely to be wet so less attractive to sit upon. The main appeal appears to be surfing borne out by those still on their boards as light faded and the number of surf references at the incomplete development in the vicinity.
I’m sure that if we had investigated we may have found somewhere for refreshments but these weren’t obvious. We headed back north for our 90 minute drive back to Corralejo.
There are many sandy, scenic beaches in Fuerteventura and this one would not be in our top 20.
