The service is consistently poor. Breakfast was offered, except the only item left was one solitary muffin. One coffee cup left which was dirty. The tables in the restaurant were littered with dirty crockery and there was no staff member to be seen.
The soup at lunch was served luke warm not once but twice. The member of staff on training proceeded to “assure us” that the soup was hot the second time. It was not.
I was booked in for a treatment and explained what I wanted. The treatment when I had it was not what I had asked for despite asking numerous times before my treatment started. There was certainly a desire to upsell. There were a number of apprentices on the day we visited. Following the treatment, the usual upselling continued, however when there were 7 or 8 apprentices all doing this at the same time, it was very difficult to hear anything and not in keeping with the relaxing atmosphere!
The spa day was overbooked. There were not enough lockers or loungers and a good proportion of the lockers were broken. Our towels had stains on. Despite offering branded Champneys goodies, these didn’t transpire either.
Lack of communication at check in. Fire alarm sounded consistently and repeatedly leaving guests unsure as to whether this was a drill and if we needed to evacuate, we had no idea where to go!
All in all a really poor experience. I have fed this back to Mottram Hall and Head Office. Despite what appeared to be a standard response to my initial email, my subsequent emails, including to head office have been ignored.
The spa has the potential to be fantastic, however the same issues repeat over and over. The lack of consistency and the failure to address complaints fully which extends right the way up to the top
of Champneys means I won’t return.
