Stunning hill with amazing views

点评：When landing at Tenerife Sur Airport you can see this gigantic hill situated by the coast. The minute I set my eyes on it I knew I had to check it out. Montana Roja (Red Mountain) is situated by the lesser known tourist town of El Medano, a pretty seaside town in itself. When I got to El Medano there was some kind of festival going on. Its by the waterfront you get a first glimpse of this hill. You then have to walk along El Medano's pretty promenade past many of its beaches until you get to the hiking trail of this hill. The trail is fairly straight forward and can be steep. Its very gravelly and can be lethal when coming down. The views from the top are spectacular, the famous photo of it taken from Playa de la Tejita, one of Tenerife's best beaches, is fantastic. Although most of the photos you see online the hill is redder, its not as red as it looks in photos, but the sheer size of it and it being situated next to the coast makes it so unique. On my first I walked along the coast towards Los Abrigos which was great. Here you get a view of some of the largest waves in Tenerife. You pass many isolated and pretty beaches such as Playa del Horno and Playa la Maretas. There are also many banana plantations here as well. I ended my short coastal hike at the natural lava pools of Los Abrigos. I do highly recommend coming to Montana Roja even if you are not going to hike it. El Medano is a pretty coastal town and the beaches along the coast here are just some of the best in Tenerife and some of the quietest.
