点评:The only real positives were the two crew members - especially the cook. He was a lovely young man, incredibly polite and an excellent cook.
However, the boat itself was far from “luxurious.” It clearly needs significant repair and maintenance: paint peeling everywhere, flooring lifting, and no hot water. I understand this is a Kerala houseboat and expectations can differ - but not when you compare the actual condition to the taglines and promises on the website.
I would also say the overall journey is a complete waste of time. You spend the majority of it on Vembanad Lake, including a 90-minute stop while the crew take their lunch. You’re on the lake or the large feeder rivers for almost the entire duration, and you see very little of what people would genuinely recognise as the backwaters. Really all you see are dozens of other houseboats.
To make it worse, they moor the boat for the night roughly 100 metres from their own office, take you out for about 45 minutes the following morning, and then bring you straight back again.
Because we felt we hadn’t actually experienced the backwaters at all, we took a Shikara boat for three hours afterwards - and saw far more. It’s cheaper, far more scenic and gives you the experience you expect. The only downside is that you’ll need to arrange lunch in town, which is one of the few things we would miss from the houseboat trip.
