点评:Here in this seaside town you have 2 sculpted sets of the “couple” statues - one of the couples ( slightly smaller than life-size) stand on a concrete platform beside the promenade , looking out to sea.
The other is the U.K’s first permanent , public art , offshore sculpture, as it’s based 300 meters off the coast of Northumberland on a platform that’s installed upon a rock breakwater. This sea-based “couple” stands 5 metres tall, and both sets were created by Sean Henry from bronze, steel and marine paint in 2007.
When the tide is in it appears they are standing on the waves 🌊.
Apparently, like marmite, opinion is divided over the sculptures, with some people loving them, and others loathing them. However, I found them quirky & unusual - and I guess alternative art would best describe them .
