点评：This specialty museum is dedicated to the work of the Japanese artist Hokusai (1760 - 1849). It features a permanent exhibition, a special exhibition, and an impressive gift shop. You can easily walk to the museum from the Ryogoku station on the JR Sobu line. The entrance fee is ¥700 per adult to access both exhibitions.
The permanent exhibition is small and probably not worth a visit without also going to the special exhibition. The one upside of this exhibition is that photos are allowed.
The special exhibition was definitely worth the higher entrance price. Entitled "The Impact of Hokusai’s Great Wave : Under the Wave off Kanagawa —Tracing Its Origins and Trajectory," it traces the development of Hokusai's greatest work by focusing on the artists who influenced him and the artists he, in turn, influenced. There are many rare prints in this room. It was also enlightening to see how pervasively his style has been integrated into pop culture. I just wish photos were allowed in this exhibition.
