点评:What a fabulous find. Been visiting Bozeman since the 70s to visit our grandparents and never stopped at the Gallatin Museum. It’s located in the former Gallatin Co Sheriff’s house/jail. It’s a 2-story building located on Main Street next to the courthouse. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday until 5:00 pm. Parking is easy on a Saturday since you can park behind the courthouse. There’s a small gift shop that sells a lot of history books about the Bozeman area and Montana in general.
I spent a couple hours wandering around. It was very helpful that one of the employees gives a 10 minute overview/history of the museum right after purchasing your ticket. He was so knowledgeable and could answer any question asked of him. The building used to house men, women and juvenile criminals. A small pioneer 1 room home is on display as is a distillery and some Native American artifacts.
Upstairs is a photography display of Bozeman through the years as well as some vintage cameras and gear. One room pays homage to the Ellen Theater, another to MSU cheer and a third room to vintage medical supplies.
Highly recommend a visit to the Gallatin Museum.
