点评:The Mercury Fountain (Merkurbrunnen) is one of the three Prachtbrunnen (splendid fountains) situated along Maximilianstraße in Old Town. It can be seen just across from the historic Weberhaus at Moritzplatz. The original was the design of Dutch sculptor Adriaen de Vries, who also produced the nearby Hercules Fountain, another of the three Prachtbrunnen.
Note that the original monument was relocated to Maximilianmuseum in 2001 for preservation purpose so what you see today is a replica. It is a bronze of figure of Mercury, the God of Commerce and Trade along with Cupid, the God of Love untying his sandals. They are atop a decorative centre pillar with symbolic features which served to link the Free Imperial City of Augsburg to the Holy Roman Empire when the monument was erected. Below water spouts into a ground level basin.
It is a lovely fountain with UNESCO World Heritage inclusion and interesting historic ties that are worth learning about in addition to seeing the monument while sightseeing around the Old Town.
