A ski resort ideal for beginners and off-piste fans
Dombai Ski Resort的点评
点评：Dombai is the eldest, yet contemporary ski resort in Russia. It has vast ski area with the base station located at 1600 m elevation. Two lines of lifts can take you uphill. One of them is old soviet-time pendulum lift which looks not very safe but is still popular due to lower prices for ski passes and a kind of vintage fleur. The other line is modern and comfortable with gondola lift to 2277 m station and 6 person chair lift to 3050 m. It takes about 15 minutes to rise to the 3050 m station from the bottom. The third chair lift to the top of Mussa-Achitara mountain is rather slow, but it’s worth it, as the sights from the top of the mountain are truly impressive.
Pistes are marked as green, blue, red and black, though the single black piste is not too complicated, in Alpine resorts it would be marked as red also. All pistes were well-prepared. And the resort has the vast areas for off-piste skiing!
Unfortunately, the pistes were poorly marked on the ground with few fences and markers, so in bad weather you had to ski carefully to avoid getting out of the piste. Luckily, there was only one day of fog and light snowfall during our vacations, the others were sunny, so we enjoyed skiing and snowboarding.
As for apres-ski activities, there are a lot of restaurants and cafes, souvenir shops and local product markets both up and downhill, spa center, etc.
And there were not too many tourists at the time, thus no long queues to the lifts, no waiting in restaurants, and almost free pistes for speed skiing.
