Watkins Regional Park的点评
点评：PG County has a lot of great facilities: parks, community centers, pools, etc. Watkins is probably our favorite; we had started going to the park to see its annual drive-thru annual lights display, something we look forward to every year. Since having kids, we are grateful to find a park not too far from home that offers a unique playground (Wizard of Oz themed), carousel, miniature train, farm, mini golf, and nature center (it costs money to ride the train and carousels, but the fare is extremely reasonable). If Watkins had a large splash and more shade coverage for its playground (there is a second, smaller playground that is better shaded), we’d be in Heaven. And that’s only like a fraction of what the park has to offer. There are loads of trails, fields, programs, and even a campground. It is an expansive property with so much to do, and it’s wonderful to see a county devote resources to providing so much at very little or no cost to its patrons. If you have very young kids, I highly recommend all of the fun in and around their Wizard of Oz playground. You could easily fit a whole day in with a wide variety of activities. If going on weekends or summer weekdays, it may get crowded. Lots of pavilions get booked for birthday parties, and summer camp groups swarm the playground. It also gets very hot in the summer months on the large playground because so much of the play structures are in the full sun. On the plus, you will find some great early-evening offerings for that part of the park during the summer. It’s one of the best parks, if not THE best park in the county (Alan Pond Park is a close second for us). On a related note: if you’re looking for a similar playground experience, there are a few other themed playgrounds around the DMV area. Walker Mills, based on a fairytale theme, is a lot of fun, too (and has a splash pad!).
