点评:Basongcuo is a hidden wonderland in a remote valley. It has dense forests, crystal lakes, cascading waterfalls, and green pastures under a curtain of snow-capped mountains. There are rustic dwellings and shops. We are at 3380m elevation and entry tickets are needed to visit.
Basomtso resembles an alpine valley in Switzerland. It is a crescent-shaped lake. It is amongst many small lakes in Tibet. Crafted by glaciers it is deep and wide. On the shores are small islands above the turquoise water. Mountains are mirrored inside the lake. We watched fish swimming below and white cranes flying above. The colours of autumn foliage gently adorned the lake. We are going to an ancient monastery
Tsodzong Monastery was founded during the Yuan Dynasty. Mystical ruler Gesar Ling, Guru Rinpoche and Indian sage Padmasambhava resided here. They were from the Nyingma School. Their images and relics are worshipped next to smaller statues of Sakyamuni. Worshippers rub a stone hoofprint of Gesar Ling’s horse to heal illness. The steps to the monastery are with wooden male and female organs as fertility symbols. Childless couples came to pray for conceptions.
