点评:South Carolina has great state parks and this is not exception. After paying a slight admission fee, there are a variety of things to do. We started at the Berkely County Museum which appears to be in a historic home. There is much about Francis Marion and other local characters. For anyone interested in area history, there are many names that connect this area with Charleston and plantations on the river.
There is a gorgeous interpretive center describing the Santee Canal which was in operation between 1790 and 1850 to facilitate trade, This canal connected the Santee River with the Cooper River and was the first canal built in America.
There is also a historic home (closed the day we were there), a playground, the site of a battlefield, the first submersible water craft and excellent trails that are sure to produce a glimpse of wildlife. Canoes are also available to rent.
What a great place to spend and afternoon!
