Stunning location, mournful ruins and spectacular views

点评：We left our accommodation under a cloudy sky and headed south to Jervis Bay and the Booderee NP. After 10 mins or so, came upon the Booderee Visitor Centre and park entry. It’ll cost you $20 for a day pass, and you get a useful map to boot. From the visitor centre, it’s an easy drive on sealed roads past the turnoff to Cave Beach before you come across a crossroads. Straight ahead takes you along the north coast to Scottish Rocks, the Hole in the Wall and ultimately Murray’s Beach. A right turn at the crossroads takes you down toward the south east of the national park, and the lighthouse ruins. Or, if you prefer, take a quick detour left at the crossroads and make for the Jervis Bay takeaway and supermarket (it’s literally only 200m) to grab a bite and top up the mintie supplies. Once satiated, it’s back to the crossroads and south down Wreck Bay Rd (sealed); it’s marked with a brown tourist sign saying ‘Historic Lighthouse’. After a few km, you’ll take a left turn (at the tourist sign) onto an unsealed road. About one km down the road, it’s another left onto Stony Creek Rd. Four km on and it’s one final left turn for the last km to the lighthouse car park. There are toilets at the carpark, which is a lazy 200m stroll from the ruins. The road in is easily navigated by 2WD and has few potholes. It is a little narrow in places however and these places are invariably where you come across other cars.
The views of and from the lighthouse ruins are mesmerising. Blue skies and a polarising filter help, but you really can’t go wrong here. Everywhere you turn, you’re confronted by stunning compositions of dishevelled sand stone blocks, crashing surf and wrought iron gates slowly decaying. I could have spent hours here just taking photos, but the storyboards were even better than the standard fare and made for the complete experience.
