点评:This is one of the lesser visited archaeological sites in Tunisia notable for its well-preserved underground villas. Currently, there are three underground sites open to the public. The House of Venus with a beautifully restored mosaic depicting Venus, the New House of Hunting, with its five vertical pillars still standing with mosaics featuring a lion, hare and wild boar. Best of all, there is the (original) House of Hunting with its atmospheric underground courtyard. A couple of other villas, the House of Fishing and House of Treasure, can only be viewed from the ground. There is also a small theatre worth visiting.
The remainder of the site is largely undeveloped, but it does not cover such a large area, so most areas can be visited in around 90 minutes. There are remnants of mosaic flooring in many areas, but these are open to the elements and not in good condition.
A tour of the site needs to be accompanied by a good guidebook as direction signs are non-existent and information signage at each location only provides minimal information. As an alternative, there are also guides around on site, although we found our guidebook to be sufficient.
The ticket office plus car park, cafe, small shop and toilets are across the road. Tourists pay eight Dinars to enter, cash only.
