点评:Access is up a narrow steep road with passing places but leads to a decent size car park at the top. Toilet facilities available - €0.5 - no other facilities on the walk. Tiny cafe selling cakes and coffee/drinks.
We did the Levada walk which was about 10 miles in total. It’s flat but uneven in places. It’s not suitable for children due to narrow pathways with fairly insubstantial fencing and sheer drops! It’s also very busy! If you bring walking poles you will quickly become irritated by them and if you need them it’s probably not the walk for you. Bring head torches - these are vital as some of the tunnels are long with restricted height. Be prepared to balance across the levada to allow other walkers to pass! We did witness a fall with suspected fractured ankle - he was quoted at least 2 hours until the rescue services arrived and it would have been so hard to extract him from that area. Decent ankle supporting footwear recommended along with waterproofs! The walk itself is magical - verdant and green, water falls trickling from the cliff sides, vertiginous views if you allow yourself to look! Trout swimming in the levadas and the thrill of the dark tunnels! Be prepared and enjoy this spectacular walk!
