点评：Carlton Gardens, a Melbourne gem, is like a Victorian-era theme park for adults (and kids who can tolerate a bit of history with their play).
Imagine stately elms and oaks, like wise old uncles, towering over manicured lawns where squirrels have clandestine picnic meetings. (ha ha... except we don't have squirrels)
There's a fountain, the Hochgurtel Fountain, that seems to be constantly trying to out-splash its neighbour, the French Fountain, in a watery duel.
The Royal Exhibition Building, a grand dame from a bygone era, looms over it all, occasionally hosting flower shows that are basically a horticultural fashion parade.
The playground? It's a whimsical wonderland of swings, slides, and sandpits, guaranteed to tire out even the most energetic child (or adult attempting a nostalgic climb).
