Riviera Rhine-Main Cruise
Rhine–Main–Danube Canal的点评
点评：My Husband and I went on the Riviera Medieval Germany Rhine cruise. Upon our arrival at the ship in Nuremberg we were shocked to find that we would not be actually cruising along the Rhine but instead were on the Main canal which connects the Rhine to the Danube...oh wait, we did travel about 1/2 a mile on the Rhine in order to get to Mainz. (Hardly a Rhine cruise)
No mention in Riviera's brochure of this being a journey along a man made canal.
No mention was made of the FORTY ONE locks that we would be navigating.
No mention was made of the numerous bridges that we would pass under thus rendering the use of the sun deck impossible for three quarters of the journey.
We were expecting to see the beautiful scenery and majestic historic towns of the Rhine, instead our views consisted of various industrial sites, particularly cement works, aggregate manufacturing, recycling plants, rusty abandoned works, rusty cranes.
On the plus side, yes, the various towns we visited were beautiful and full of history and the cruise ship was first class with a wonderful crew, well equipped cabins, excellent food and had a great atmosphere.
5 stars for the ship and crew but only 2 stars for the canal trip itself.
We would not recommend this cruise unless you have an interest in the inner workings of the German canal lock system..
