点评:Don't look for a website - we came across this solely through the tourist bureau of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.
We had the great luck to meet several of the Zigotos - a group of retirees who are passionate about restoring old dories formerly used for cod fishing. The time worked out, we met Gerard and his team at the "saline" (translated as 'salt box', they are sheds on the gravel beach for storing tools and nets).
What we didn't expect was a full historical view of fishing by Paul, a former teacher who gave us a running commentary the entire time, and his colleague, Gilles, who piloted the motorized dory.
We end up leaving the harbour and motoring over to the "Grand Colombier" - an mountain that is part of the islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. It turned out to be populated by "common mures" - a bird of the auk family who look like small flying penguins. As well, a number of puffins on the cliffs above. Because the walls are steep, it's practically impossible to land on the Grand Colombier, so it is a perfect bird refuge. It was like stepping into a documentary film - we were surrounded by common mures on water and in the air. The water is absolutely clear - because it is so cold there is little or no plankton or algae in the water. (Sadly, with just an iPhone camera, you are unlikely to get great photos. Bring a proper camera with a telephoto lens).
This tour was, as they say "worth the voyage". The combination of the enthusiasm of the team, the personal engagement and finding ourselves inside a living nature documentary was really something.
