Last October, I had what I thought would be a thrilling adventure—paragliding over the beautiful valleys of Georgia. What followed was one of the most horrifying experiences of my life, and I urge everyone: please do not risk your life by paragliding in Georgia.
Here’s why:
• It is completely unregulated – There is no proper oversight, no safety standards, and no accountability.
• You are not covered by travel insurance – Paragliding in Georgia is classified as a high-risk, unregulated activity. If something goes wrong, you’re on your own.
• Pilots are untrained and uncertified – The person I flew with had no official license or government certification. He looked confident but clearly had no control.
• Zero safety infrastructure – No medical facility nearby, no emergency support. It’s just you, the wind, and hope.
During my flight, the pilot lost balance mid-air, and we free-fell from nearly 3000 ft. Miraculously, he walked away unharmed—but I wasn’t so lucky. I suffered multiple fractures in my neck, hand, and leg, and spent eight months bedridden, fighting both pain and trauma. There was no legal recourse, no compensation, and no one to hold accountable.
I’m sharing this not to scare, but to warn. Just 15 minutes of thrill can cost you your life or leave you permanently disabled. A quick search on Google will show you—fatal accidents happen every year, and yet the government has done nothing to stop it. It was banned a few years ago but quietly restarted.
Please, don’t take the risk.
No selfie, no adrenaline rush, no scenic video is worth your life.
