Fantastic visit - engaging, informative and well worth it
Spitfire Visitor Centre的点评
点评：We recently visited Hangar 42 Spitfire Visitor Centre as a group of 12 from our Royal British Legion Pudsey & Farsley branch, and I can honestly say it exceeded expectations.
From the moment you walk in, you’re struck by the sheer number of exhibits, particularly the range of Spitfires from different marks. Being able to see these aircraft up close, alongside others like the Hurricane and Messerschmitt, really gives you a sense of the history and engineering behind them.
A real highlight was the talk delivered by Tony on the Dowding System. It was informal, engaging and incredibly informative, supported by original wartime footage. The explanation of how radar, the Observer Corps and plotting rooms worked together to track and intercept enemy aircraft was fascinating, and really brought the Battle of Britain to life.
There’s plenty to get involved in too. Some of our group tried the flight simulator and VR experiences, while others spent time looking more closely at the exhibits. The opportunity to sit inside a Spitfire cockpit for a small donation was also a standout moment and something you don’t get to do every day.
What really makes the place though is the volunteers. Their knowledge, passion and willingness to share it makes a huge difference, and it’s clear how much effort goes into keeping the centre running.
We spent around three hours there and could easily have stayed longer. Several of us are already talking about going back, especially to see the Spitfires flying.
If you have any interest in aviation or history, this place is absolutely worth a visit.
