点评：After a flight and skybus from the airport here I was at SCS looking for a taxi at 1930 on April 27. After approaching the first taxi on the rank, I was told my 3.3km trip was too short and to try the taxi at the end of the line. So i dragged my suitcase passed at least 8 taxis; the driver at the end of the line wound down the passenger window to speak to me - said “okay” he would take me - and told me to open the door and put my suitcase on the front seat. I then got in the back seat with my carry on. The taxi driver asked me to spell the name of the street I needed and asked if a $30 fare would be ok. When I said I don’t know if that’s the rate, he said how about $25. I said how about putting the meter on? He then made some excuses. I was appalled and speechless by this deceptive behaviour which I communicated to him as I promptly removed myself and my suitcases from his taxi.
After this poor first impression of Melbourne, I called an Uber and was met with a delightful driver who helped me in putting my luggage into his boot and chatted all the way to my hotel. Price $14.50. (Plus tip for his excellent customer service).
This taxi mafia has previously been highlighted on several TV shows. Seems they believe they are untouchable trying to scam customers with inflated prices and appalling service.
So do yourself a favor and steer clear of the taxi ranks until they clean up their act.
