点评:I saw reviews making it seem like a daunting hike in and out but if you’re in average shape from a physical fitness standpoint it’s pretty standard St John hiking. About a mile one way to Brown Bay up and down a decent sized hill. The stench of sargassum hits you as you get close to the end of the hike so at least the majority of the hike doesn’t smell like rotten eggs. LOL
The snorkeling wasn’t worth the hike though. The right side is definitely better but aside from seeing a few cool fish the reef was pretty sparse. We tried the left side but that was literally a brown soupy mess of sargassum as far as the eye could see and we decided we know how Brown Bay got its name. The sand bar was nice though once you climbed through the sargassum on the beach but that’s about it.
If you’re looking for great snorkeling on the east side of the island. I’d suggest North Haulover (on a non-windy day) or Waterlemon Cay instead of Brown Bay.
