点评:While staying in Unawatuna, we came across a poster for Sri Yoga Shala and, intrigued, decided to visit. We hiked nearly 2km uphill, naively thinking we were about to explore a welcoming local yoga retreat that promotes the practice to the community.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Eva, one of the hosts, who enthusiastically showed us around the yoga center and its accommodations.
After the tour, we planned to leave and return the next day for a class, but Eva kindly invited us to sit down and have some water before heading back. We accepted and sat down to drink some water, then she handed us a menu and asked if we’d like to order coffee. Since she had taken the time to show us around, we felt it was only polite to order two iced coffees, without checking the prices—after all, even at high-end seaside restaurants, a pot of coffee typically costs around LKR 700-800. Imagine our shock when the bill arrived—LKR 3,300 for two iced coffees. We were so taken aback that later, in Colombo, we even checked the prices at a five-star hotel, where the most expensive coffee on the menu was LKR 1,400.
Regardless of how a place brands itself—with words like “spirituality,” “mindfulness,” or “holistic wellness”—basic integrity and fair pricing should always come first. If someone believes they can overcharge just because a visitor “looks wealthy,” what does that say about their values? And can such people truly teach you about harmony and inner peace?
If you plan to visit Sri Yoga Shala, be sure to confirm all prices upfront. This place felt more like a marketing gimmick than a genuine yoga retreat, and based on our experience, we would not recommend it.
