A nice but disappointing walk

点评：A well marked, relatively easy walk with lovely views, which must be of special interest to Lord of the Rings fans. Sadly some aspects of the walk downgraded its enjoyment for us.
We were very disappointed and bemused to find substantial parts of the narrow public footpath Astro-turfed-(yes, this was in open countryside). Have never seen this done before, despite walking extensively. It cannot be good for biodiversity and do we really need to find new ways of spreading micro plastic in the environment?
The river sections of the walk are very badly affected by highly invasive Himalayan balsam which has taken over the river bank and is moving into hedgerows and woods running parallel.
The trail is “diverted” away from the river at Winkley Hall Farm and walkers are directed along an unattractive track which joins the river walk at a later stage. The diversion is not shown on OS maps and there is no indication that this is an official footpath diversion.
