Beautiful Waterfall - on the way to Hengifoss

点评：The parking lot is right off the main road, only a 20 minute drive from Egilsstaðir along the lake.
At the parking lot there is great facilities that are well worth making use of before embarking on the hike to Hengifoss and Litlanesfoss.
The hike is fairly steep and if you’re not a usual hiker could take some time to get up there. A lot of people we’d seen review it previously advised it would be a 45 - 60 minute hike each way due to how steep it is and this is easy to validate. A decent pair of walking boots are absolutely required, on the morning of our hike it was very misty and the track was wet. Whilst the lower proportion of it is well marked and laid, the upper portion is more gravel and mud which accompanied with the steepness can be a bit slippery.
The waterfall itself a lovely fall, adorned with basalt columns either side it is definitely one of the more charismatic falls you will come across in Iceland yet in this instance it isn’t the main attraction.
Given the complete walk to Hengifoss it is well worth making a stop at Litlanesfoss on the way up and on the way down as well!
